Golf Highland, Scotland - About Golf Highland

Golf Highland is a company limited by guarantee, set up specifically to "maximise the benefits of golf to local communities in the Highlands". Achieving this aim recognises the need to put quality and value for money at the heart of strategy; to maximise golf related employment and training opportunities; to concentrate on developing the tourism aspects of golf; to focus the needs of golf clubs at the heart of the strategy; to work in partnership with those who wish to implement the strategy; and the generation of a wide geographical spread of benefits throughout the Highlands. These seem tall aims, but those associated with Golf Highland are committed to developing our golfing product, using our competitive advantage: "Scotland - the home of golf" to realise this vision.

Our company status, limited by guarantee, means that all revenue generated and any surpluses achieved will be reinvested in Golf Highland to further the aims and objectives, towards achieving the strategic vision.

So how did Golf Highland evolve? Through various officials, and well-known individuals within golfing circles, meetings began in early 1996 to ascertain if there was any interest in developing the golfing sector. The project evolved and various market research exercises were undertaken, along with a promotional leaflet and poster, which coincided with the match between the titans: Fred Couples and Greg Norman at Skibo. So, the project was launched and has evolved to a point that a new company has now been launched, a strategy is in place to deliver key projects, a project officer is in place and a board of directors duly appointed to oversee the company.

The Highlands has an enviable array of links and parkland courses, which at the last count numbered 44, and are the most scenic, unique, and cost effective golf in the world. But, few people know about the hidden gems throughout the Highlands and we need to exploit our competitive advantage and actively promote, in partnership with golf courses, the facilities on offer, to ensure that we achieve a greater market share of golf tourism. We look forward to the voyage ahead and hope to unleash the potential for the overall development of golf for all associated with this valuable industry.
