Queen Victoria was busy celebrating her eightieth birthday as Sir Alexander Dunbar of Boath stepped up to the first tee of a brand new golf course on the shores of the Moray Firth. Amid applause from the crowd, he raised his specially-made club and made a splendid drive along the gorse and whin lined fairway. It was 24th May 1899 and the first shot on the links course to which Sir Alexander Dunbar had given both his name and sixty acres of land, had just been played.

A century on, Nairn Dunbar is a formidable Championship course, giving treasured golfing memories to visitors from around the world. The Club was founded to allow working men and women to enjoy the "royal and ancient game of golf" and this principle holds firm today. Nairn Dunbar is as renowned for its openness and friendliness as for its technical challenge.

Twice host to the Northern Open Championship, and the chosen venue for the Scottish Ladies Close Amateur Championship and the Scottish Boys' Stroke Play, the club enjoys a growing reputation for high-quality competition golf.

After your game you will be warmly welcomed and cared for in the spacious new Clubhouse, overlooking the Moray Firth. The Club's extensive visitor facilities include locker-rooms and showers, club hire and repair, comfortable lounge bars, a dining room and a well-stocked professional's shop.

"It abounds in all the natural hazards so desirable in the game of golf"

So wrote an Inverness journalist in 1899, and little has changed. Silver birch, winding waterways, gorse and whin bushes, willows and sallows, dastardly ditches, the Minister's Loch and, of course, sand dunes, all add to the challenge and fun. With the contribution of three new holes in 1994, the course has been enhanced and lengthened to 6765 yards, and now rates par 72, SSS 74, slope 139.
